Team A

The Thursday League teams provide members with the opportunity to compete at a higher level against clubs from across the Mansfield and North Nottinghamshire area. These more competitive fixtures combine teamwork, skill and match-play experience, while retaining the enjoyable and sociable atmosphere that makes representing Mansfield Bowling Club so rewarding.

The Competitive Way to Play League Bowls

The Thursday League teams provide members with the opportunity to compete at a higher level against clubs from across the Mansfield and North Nottinghamshire area. With both A and B teams representing the club, these fixtures offer experienced bowlers the chance to enjoy regular competitive league play against strong opposition, while still retaining the friendly spirit and camaraderie that are central to our club.

Open to all senior bowling members, the Thursday League is generally regarded as the club's more competitive outdoor league. While the standard of play is higher, new players with the ability and ambition to progress are encouraged to put themselves forward, with support and encouragement always available from fellow team members.

As well as providing enjoyable and challenging bowling, Thursday League matches are an important part of club life, helping to strengthen friendships within the club and build relationships with neighbouring clubs. Whether playing at home or away, members can expect competitive matches, strong team spirit and an enjoyable evening of bowls.

  • This league brings together teams from clubs across Mansfield and the wider North Nottinghamshire area, in two leagues, with matches played on Thursdays throughout the season. Club teams are selected from participating members, with each side made up of two players competing against teams from the host or visiting club. Matches are typically played over 18 or 21 ends.

    Each team aims to achieve the highest score on their rink, with points awarded for individual rink wins and for the highest aggregate score across all teams.

    As a result, every shot counts. Even when winning or losing, teams are encouraged to score as heavily as possible, as the overall result can often be determined by the combined scores from all rinks.

  • Members who would like to be considered for selection should contact the team captain at the start of the season, although opportunities to join the squad may arise during the year.

    Teams are selected by the team captain. Depending on the team and the number of players available, selection may be based on a pre-arranged rota system or determined on a match-by-match basis, taking into account availability and current form. Team selection is entirely at the discretion of the team captain.

    Should a selected player become unavailable for a match, they are asked to notify the team captain as soon as possible to allow alternative arrangements to be made.

  • Match details, including the location and start time, will be provided on the team sheet. Home matches are played in Mansfield, while away fixtures take place at bowls clubs throughout the North Nottinghamshire area.

    League matches are generally played on Thursday afternoons during the summer season.

  • Teams are selected on a rotational basis according to the captain's arrangements.
