Our Story
Founded around 1700, Mansfield Bowling Club is believed to be one of the oldest sporting clubs in Nottinghamshire. Although the precise origins have been lost to time, bowling has been associated with the Leeming Street area of Mansfield for centuries, and local tradition has long held that the club's roots stretch back to the early eighteenth century.
Over more than three hundred years, generations of members have helped shape the club, preserving its traditions while adapting to changing times. From its historic home behind the Bowl in Hand on Leeming Street to its modern purpose-built facilities today, Mansfield Bowling Club has remained at the heart of the local community.
A symbol of Our Club
Following the club's success in the Edwardian era, Mansfield Bowling Club adopted a distinctive crest reflecting both its traditions and its connection with the town. Drawing inspiration from the civic arms granted to Mansfield in 1905, the emblem incorporated heraldic elements including an oak tree, shield, crossed swords and bugle horns associated with the Dukes of Portland and the Cavendish family.
Although the exact date of its introduction is unknown, the crest is believed to have originated sometime after 1905, possibly during the Edwardian period. Over the years its design has evolved, with details being refined while preserving the symbolism and heritage that have come to represent generations of Mansfield bowlers.
Club Officers
Mansfield Bowling Club is run entirely by volunteers whose dedication helps the club thrive. From organising competitions and fixtures to welcoming new members, our officers and committee play an important role in preserving the traditions and spirit of the club.
Together, the committee oversees the day-to-day running of the club, supported by many other volunteers who help maintain the green, organise competitions, run social events and welcome new members.
