Friday Indoor Bowls Drive

Our Friday Winter Competition brings Mansfield Bowling Club members together for a friendly but competitive morning of indoor bowls at South Forest in Edwinstowe. Each week, players draw their rink and position for a 12-end bowls drive, giving everyone the chance to play alongside different teammates. Individual scores count towards the Alan Bridge Indoor Trophy, which goes to the player with the best total from 18 weekly scores across the two ten-week sessions. You’ll find the weekly results and standings below.

Friday Mornings at South Forest

Our Friday Winter Competition brings Mansfield Bowling Club members together at South Forest in Edwinstowe for a morning of indoor bowls and good company. Members arrive by 10.15am to draw their rink and playing position, ready for play from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

We play a bowls drive, so the weekly draw gives members the chance to play alongside different teammates and try their hand at different positions. Each team stays on its drawn rink, and the first 12 ends count towards the result. There’s a winning team each Friday, and every player carries their score forward into the individual competition.

The winter is split into two ten-week sessions, one before Christmas and one after. Each session has its own winner, while the Alan Bridge Indoor Trophy goes to the player with the highest total from their best 18 weekly scores. That gives members room to miss a couple of Fridays and still be in contention.

Much of the enjoyment comes from the draw itself. A familiar opponent can become this week’s teammate, and there’s always a chance to learn from someone whose approach to the game is different from your own. It’s a sociable way to keep bowling and stay in touch with club friends through the winter.

Friday Bowls Drive rules

South Forest, Edwinstowe · Winter 2026/27

Friday sessions

Please arrive by 10.15am so there is time for the draw and to prepare the scorecards. Play runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

How the bowls drive works

  1. On arrival, draw your team colour, rink number and playing position. You must keep the position you draw.
  2. Stay on your drawn rink and play 12 ends against your opponents.
  3. You may carry on playing after 12 ends, but only the first 12 ends count towards the result.
  4. Each Friday, the organisers announce the winning team and record every player’s score.

The two ten-week cycles

First cycle · 9 October to 11 December 2026. After the final session, the organisers add up each player’s weekly scores. The player with the highest total wins a cash prize. The prize amount depends on how many players attend.

Second cycle · 8 January to 12 March 2027. The competition resumes after Christmas. The same format runs for another ten weeks, with a separate winner for this cycle.

Alan Bridge Indoor Trophy

Your best 18 weekly scores across both cycles count towards the trophy. The player with the highest total wins. This allows you to miss up to two Fridays for holidays or other commitments and still count a full set of scores.

Session fees and contacts

Each Friday costs £5.00 for South Forest members and £5.50 for Mansfield Bowling Club members who are not registered with South Forest.
