CLOSING OF THE GREEN

DON WRIGHT TROPHY

Played Saturday 18 September

What a wonderful end to an unusual season. 42 bowlers and 16 supporting members and friends enjoyed the Don Wright Trophy. It was a delight to have Don with us to present his Trophy. Mick Liam and Donald Gibson won.

JUNIOR PAIRS COMPETITION

Played Thursday 16 September

The playing of the first junior pairs competition on Thursday afternoon was supported by the parents grandparents and members of the club. The glorious weather was graced by quality bowling. Jak and Ollie who have missed three weeks due the bad weather and Covid performed remarkably well. Jak and "Hurst" were the winners with Bella and Joe runners up.The club should be rightly proud of our outstanding juniors. (Ask Hurst what happened to Sammi.)

JUNIORS UNDER 10 PAIRS

Played Saturday 11 September

A delightful Saturday morning watching our under 10s compete for the pairs trophy. It was their first experience of playing a proper competition. A huge thank you to Trevor and Mick for gently guiding them through the basics and for making the experience enjoyable. After some super bowling Evie and Arlo beat Connie and Woody. A big thank you to all the parents friends and members who turned out to support the future of the club.

The older juniors will be playing their doubles competition on Thursday at 4.30pm.

Mel and Sylvia won the morning Round Robin section while Ron and Shaun and Janet and John on count back won the afternoon sections. The group winners played the final with Ron and Shaun beating Janet and John in a close final. Neil's organisation was as usual excellent and Eleanor and Jan's catering was appreciated by everyone.

LAKE / ALLWOOD COMPETITION

Ladies v Men

Played 28 August

Winners - Men

A fantastic turn out for the playing of the Lake Allwood trophy. Despite winning on three of the six rinks the gentlemen won 124-99.

It was pleasing to see Peter Allwood accepting the trophy from Eleanor.

NOVICE CUP COMPETITION

Played 25 August

Winner - Stuart Noble

Runner up - Malc Fokes

An inspiring Novice Cup day. The standard of bowling was outstanding. The morning group winners were Stuart Noble and Chris Walker, with Stuart winning the first semi-final. The afternoon group winners were Malc Fokes and Harvey Klar, with Malc winning his semi-final.

After a very entertaining final between Malc and Stuart, with some exceptional bowling from both players, Stuart emerged victorious and is therefore the winner of this year’s Novice Cup. The continuing improvement in the general standard of the bowling by all members remains a credit to the club and the players.

An outstanding feature of the day was the number of members and players who turned up to support the novices. Over 30 club members could be seen applauding the quality of the bowling that they were witnessing. Thanks to Neil and his team, the stickpersons and those who provided the refreshments.

Well done to all who took part.

A great day!
